A GROUP of young people from Middlesbrough Youth Parliament (MYP) has raised more than £400 for a hospital ward for adolescent patients.
At present children of all ages share a ward at the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.
Seven MYP members wore fancy dress and did a charity walk in Middlesbrough town centre to raise money to fit out the new ward.
Last week, they presented a cheque for the amount raised to ward sister Julie Johnson.
"We have asked the students how they think the ward should be fitted out," said a hospital spokesman.
"They are going to think about what furnishings we should have and how they think other young people would like to see it decorated to make them feel as comfortable as possible."
MYP members are working with artist Steve Robson on initial designs for the ward.
Another group from MYP has already boosted the funds for an adolescent ward by recording and selling a CD, called Brain Stew and Song 2.
