Firm aims to stem bottled water tide

From the Northern Echo, first published Monday 25th Aug 2003.

COLD tap water will be served in Thirsk today as part of Yorkshire Water's fight against the bottled water industry.

The water company's Best Served Chilled campaign is hoping to encourage customers to chill their tap water instead of buying bottled brands.

Mintel research shows that growth in the UK bottled water market shows no sign of slowing, with sales reaching £1b last year.

Yorkshire Water has taken to the roads to argue that tap water is better value for money than bottled water, with a litre from the tap costing as little as 0.006p.

Jugs of cold tap water will be handed out at the Ideal Home and Garden Exhibition, at Thirsk racecourse, from 10am to 4.30pm.
